Jay-Z has received praise for using his music to promote the original Magna Carta document through the title of his brand new album, with the Dean of Salisbury admitting that she is “delighted” by the rapper's move.

The title of the record is based on the Magna Carta which was drafted and signed by King John in 1215 and states the liberty and political rights which prevented the monarch from abusing their powers.

Salisbury Cathedral is home to one of the four original copies of the charter and is also hosting a copy of the artwork for the 'MCHG' album as a way of thanking Jay-Z for drawing attention to the historical document.

The 'MCHG' artwork is currently on display at the Salisbury Cathedral next to the original document

“We are delighted that Jay Z has chosen Salisbury Cathedral, home to the finest of the four surviving original 1215 Magna Carta, as the location for the global premiere of his artwork for 'Magna Carta... Holy Grail',” the Dean of Salisbury, the Very Reverand June Osbourne said.

“We know how important Magna Carta, and all it represents, is to people across the globe. The ideals it embodies are still relevant today. Jay Z, through his album, is creating a huge awareness of this historic document and its modern significance to a huge audience in the run up to its 800th anniversary in 2015.”
